As a 2nd Engineer on a Oil Tanker, you run day-to-day machinery operation and maintenance - with the specialised focus that comes with crude oil and petroleum cargo handled through inert-gas and pump systems. Owners running oil tankers prefer officers who already know the ship type and hold the right endorsements, so vessel-specific experience is a real advantage.
What you need
A valid MEO Class 1 or 2 Certificate of Competency, a full current STCW suite, and oil tanker familiarisation and Advanced Oil Tanker Cargo Operations. A valid medical certificate and relevant sea time complete the picture.
