What a Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) does
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) is responsible for the vessel's electrical, electronic, and control systems - from the main switchboard, generators and high-voltage equipment to automation, alarms, navigation electronics, and cargo-related electrical systems. As ships grow more automated, the ETO has become a key member of the engine team.
Certificates and requirements
- A valid Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competency
- High-voltage training and STCW Basic Safety Training
- A valid medical certificate and the required sea time / training record
- Advanced tanker courses for tanker and gas-carrier fleets
