Privacy policy

Shiplo is operated by NineCC Education India Pvt Ltd. This explains what we hold, who sees it, and how to get it changed or removed. It follows the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023.

The short version. Seafarers give us a CV so shipping companies can find them. Companies only see contact details after they are verified, and only a limited number each month. We do not sell your data, and we do not give it to anyone outside that purpose. Ask us to delete it and we will.

What we hold

If you are a seafarer

Name, date of birth, nationality and contact details
Your CV, and what we read from it: rank, sea service, vessel types, companies sailed with, certificates and their expiry
Availability — whether you are free, and when you last told us
Passport, CDC, COC and STCW details where your CV contains them

If you are a company

Company name, address, licence number and licence validity
Contact name, work email and phone number
Vacancies you post and the material on your company page

Collected automatically

IP address, browser, device type and pages viewed, through Google Analytics
Records of searches run and contacts unlocked, so we can enforce limits and investigate misuse

Who sees a seafarer's details

This is the part that matters most, so it is set out plainly.

Anyone searching Sonar sees rank, sea time, vessel types, certificates and availability. No name, no phone number, no email, no CV.
Verified companies can unlock full details, including your CV, for a limited number of seafarers each month. Verification means a licence number checked against the regulator's list and a working email address on the company's own domain.
Nobody else. We do not sell data, we do not share it for marketing, and we do not pass it to recruiters who are not verified companies on Shiplo.

Once a company has unlocked your details, they hold them. Our terms require them to use those details only to consider you for work, but we cannot recall what has already been seen.

WhatsApp and Telegram

We publish vacancies to our WhatsApp community and Telegram channel. Those posts carry the vacancy and the hiring company — never a seafarer's details. Joining either channel is voluntary and governed by WhatsApp's or Telegram's own privacy terms, not ours.

To let shipping companies find crew, which is the reason you gave us the CV
To show vacancies and company information to seafarers
To prevent fraud, fake postings and abuse of contact unlocks
To understand how the site is used and improve it
To meet legal obligations

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It sets cookies and processes data outside India. We do not run advertising trackers and we do not sell audience data. You can block cookies in your browser; the site will still work.

How long we keep it

Seafarer CVs and details: while you are looking for work. If you do not confirm availability for 24 months we remove your profile from search, and delete the CV file.
Company records: while the company is listed.
Unlock and search logs: 24 months, for abuse investigation.
Billing records: as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, stop using it, or delete it. Write to ceo@shiplo.in from the address you gave us, or from any address if you tell us enough to find the record. We reply within 30 days.

Deletion is real: your CV file is removed and your profile stops appearing in Sonar. Companies who already unlocked your details keep their copy, and you can ask them directly under the same law.

Grievances

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, write to the Grievance Officer at ceo@shiplo.in, marked “Grievance”. We acknowledge within 72 hours and resolve within 30 days. If you remain unsatisfied you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.

Security

Traffic is encrypted with TLS. CVs are stored on servers we control, not in public folders. Access is limited to people who need it. No system is perfect; if a breach affects you we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.

Under 18

Shiplo is for adults. We do not knowingly hold data on anyone under 18 and will delete it if we find it. Cadets and trainees must be 18 or over to submit a CV.

Changes

We will post any update here and change the date at the top. Significant changes affecting seafarers will be notified by email or on our channels.
