The Marine Superintendent oversees the nautical and marine-safety side of an assigned fleet from ashore. The role covers navigation standards, safety and cargo operations, incident and near-miss follow-up, vetting and port-state inspections, and the ship-to-shore safety-management link. Marine Supers attend vessels for audits and inspections and drive corrective action after any incident.
The career path from sea
This is the natural shore move for an experienced Master. Command experience, a strong safety mindset, and familiarity with audits, vetting (SIRE/CDI) and inspections translate directly into the role.
What shore employers look for
Employers look for a Master (Foreign Going) CoC, sailing command experience on the relevant vessel type, and strong knowledge of ISM, vetting and port-state control, plus solid report-writing and people skills.
