Pre-sea courses are the entry route to a career at sea, taken before a first ship. Typically 3 years.
B.Sc Nautical Science is the degree route for deck officers, covering the same professional ground as the diploma over a longer period and with an academic qualification at the end. It covers navigation, seamanship, cargo operations, maritime law and ship stability alongside the mandatory safety courses.
Deck cadet, then Second Mate (Foreign Going).
Indian national, 10+2 with at least 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths and at least 50% in English. IMU CET is compulsory. Age not more than 25 at the start of the course, with a DG Shipping approved medical certificate, 6/6 vision and no colour blindness.
