Chief Mate (Foreign Going) Phase I is the first half of the preparation for the Chief Mate certificate, taken after sea service as a watchkeeping officer. It covers advanced navigation, stability and cargo work, ship handling and the management-level syllabus.
Taken with Phase II, leads to the Chief Mate (FG) certificate of competency.
Second Mate (FG) certificate and the required sea service.
