Pre-sea courses are the entry route to a career at sea, taken before a first ship. Typically 6 months.
The Certificate Course in Maritime Catering trains cooks and stewards for shipboard catering, which differs from shore kitchens in provisioning for months at sea, working in a moving galley, food hygiene under survey, and catering for a multinational crew on a fixed budget.

10th pass with at least 40% marks overall and at least 40% in English, from a recognised board. Diploma and degree holders qualify on the same 10th standard marks. Part-time, distance and correspondence qualifications are not accepted. Age between 17.5 and 25 at the start of the course.
