MFA is run by 10 approved institutes in Chennai region. Three publish fees, Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000. Next batch 5 October at Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training. AMET City College also runs it with SSO together for Rs 7,000, Rs 500 less than booking both separately.
Medical First Aid goes beyond elementary care to what a designated crew member must do when there is no doctor aboard. It covers examination of a casualty, spinal injuries, burns and fractures, medical care of rescued persons, and radio medical advice — the procedure for getting a doctor ashore to guide treatment by radio.
Required for officers. Refresh every five years.
