Chief Officer Bulk Carrier Jobs
What a Chief Officer does on a Bulk Carrier, the endorsements you need, and how to get hired for bulk carrier contracts.
The role on a Bulk Carrier
As a Chief Officer on a Bulk Carrier, you run cargo and ballast operations and lead the deck department - with the specialised focus that comes with dry bulk cargoes with hold preparation and loading-sequence planning. Owners running bulk carriers prefer officers who already know the ship type and hold the right endorsements, so vessel-specific experience is a real advantage.
What you need
A valid Chief Mate (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency, a full current STCW suite, and standard STCW with strong cargo-hold competence. A valid medical certificate and relevant sea time complete the picture.
