Chief Officer Container Ship Jobs
What a Chief Officer does on a Container Ship, the endorsements you need, and how to get hired for container ship contracts.
The role on a Container Ship
As a Chief Officer on a Container Ship, you run cargo and ballast operations and lead the deck department - with the specialised focus that comes with containerised cargo with fast turnarounds, lashing and reefer monitoring. Owners running container ships prefer officers who already know the ship type and hold the right endorsements, so vessel-specific experience is a real advantage.
What you need
A valid Chief Mate (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency, a full current STCW suite, and standard STCW; lashing and reefer experience valued. A valid medical certificate and relevant sea time complete the picture.
